The economic imperative (and sometimes just bad taste) of adapting residential units into short term rentals in Belgrade has, in many a case, wiped out the elusive concept known as warmth of a home atmosphere. The majority of apartments that have found their rightful place in our offer, have been fully and thoroughly refurbished in the past five years. Sometimes it’s done outright luxuriously and way above the prevalent living standard in Belgrade, but , more often than not, left deprived of this domestic note. And unless it has something tough to imitate (like a Jacuzzi or a sauna), an apartment in Belgrade will face serious challenges in standing out in the offer that just keeps on evolving.
This is where we get to the little things…ones that show that somebody went an extra mile to make you feel at home in their home in Belgrade. Now, to say that such serviced apartments hadn’t been in our offer in the past, would be rather dishonest. However, when HARMONY came into being, this effort has ascended to considerably higher level. Therefore, we dedicate the following few lines to this wonderful short term rental.
The story of HARMONY begins with the tenement. At a glance, the eight story residential block blends in its surroundings. The simple forms, however, conceal a ventilated facade with top notch insulation and an energy efficience higher than 98% of apartments buildings in Belgrade. Once you decide to walk through the double set of glass doors, you will walk into a gorgeous lobby with manned reception, chromed post boxes and long narrow halls.
in it, eighty apartments are served by three elevators and each has a telescopic double panel door, an intercom and pleasant music that will escort you on your horizontal journey. Apart from the three carrying people, there is a fourth elevator which carries vehicles. It goes two floors underground in the garage.
When you reach the apartment door, surprises just keep on coming – each more pleasant than the previous. Behind one of the most complex security doors we have seen ( yet opened by a simple key card), is the floor area of fifty square meters without a single dissonant tone. Now, to make things clear from the beginning the basis of each of the apartments in the building sets the bar pretty high. Radiators have built-in calorimeters, there are ACs in each room, wireless internet in each apartment, six-chamber carpentry with built in roller shutters and mosquito netting, Italian travertine ceramic tiles in the bathroom and kitchen and a massive S-class oak parquet. And that’s just their basis. In this particular short term rental the upgrade exceeded the foundation.
HARMONY is a one bedroom apartment. Apart from the open concept living room (kitchen, dining and sitting area are just functionally partitioned from one another), there is a separate bathroom, and the bedroom. It also has a 4 square meters ,fully glazed, balcony, with a wicker chair and table set for two.
The first in the row is the kitchen and you will notice straight away all of the kitchenware was built into the custom made basecabinets, cupboards and worktops, mainly for the sake of aesthetics. It is, however, also very practical. The quadruple burner hot plate is separate from the oven and additional appliances include toaster and a microwave. The utensils and crockery are of top quality, and the cookery is, mildly put, sumptuous. And the little things? Well, there is the welcome pack in the fridge to begin with. A basket full of fresh fruit and a pack of local alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages greets all guests. A quirky detail are the heat sensitive mugs which will display the image of the apartment building complex once hot liquid is poured in them.
The second room that gushes with style, attention to detail and swankiness is the bathroom. Apart from the sanitary ware that radiates master craftsmanship (a Novellini Bathtub and counter-top washbasin, LAUFEN’s wall mounted toilet with a Viega hygienic wall built flushing system), you will find a wide variety of free toiletries for different skin and hair types including packets of wet wipes and sanitary pads. The towels are as fluffy and soft as clouds and the bathrobes come in a number of different patterns, so we’re inclined to believe that even the most nit picking of the guests will find one to their liking.
The living room begins with a dining area, It holds a lovely table with high back chairs. The narrow breakfast bar serves as a partition that arrays a number of other fine ornaments – a pepper mill, an engraved wi-fi password. and beautiful touch ignition glowing flame less candles.
The sitting area is equipped with a lounge chair and a lavish Natuzzi two seater sofa, both in snow white colours and veeery comfortable. They provide a view to an outrageously wide flat screen LCD TV (55 inch diagonal) that ought to please the nuttiest of TV addicts. Another fine detail, rarely found in serviced apartments, is a stereo that would find a rightful spot in a recording studio. The lovely coffee table in a rather postmodern shape has a digital time projector (yep, you heard well – not even a clock can be ordinary in HARMONY).
A standard double bed awaits for you in the bedroom, with a non standard bedding and decorative pillows in several sizes and colors. Their elegance reminds of scenes of bourgeois homes of western Europe at the turn of the twentieth century. The night stands have a pair of nutty shabby chic lamps and behind the reflexive sliding door of the built-in wardrobes is a (perhaps unnecessary, but useful as a just in case thing) safe deposit box.
The wall opposite the bed has the “smaller” of the two TVs (mere 44”) mounted on it, and just above the headboard are the bookshelves that have a Nelson Mandela bust, a model ship and believe it or not – BOOKS! Even if you disregard all the previous ones, this particular detail shows that HARMONY nurtures one of the finer views to life. Same could be said of the paintings decorating the walls. They’re mostly oils in canvas, framed elegantly and yet unpretentiously and each is a feast for eyes.
The overall ambiance would make you expect a zero tolerance to barbaric habits such as smoking. The generous hosts of HARMONY have thought this one through as well – to avoid discomfort for smoker and non-smokers alike, the balcony is perfectly arranged for nicotine/caffeine intake and can be aerated with ease.
To ensure full comfort the garage spot is available at a minor surcharge. The elevator from the garage will bring you to the shiny corridor and the door of the apartment. In accordance with the highest European standards of safety, the fire exit lights turn on at night.
Once you combine all of these elements together, you receive a fantastic counterpoint of features that make HARMONY so much more comprehensive than an average serviced apartment in Belgrade. It’s luxurious, yet not gaudy. It’s comfortable yet far from unbridled. It has an abundance of details and yet it’s uncluttered. HARMONY is an unspoiled cosmopolitan spirit that strives without prejudice to make all guests feel at home. Its style is unobtrusive and dandy and brings about an air of a sophisticated living culture. When you add its daily rate of just 55 euros, you have all the reasons to make HARMONY your first choice of short term rental in Belgrade. The feeling of genuine hospitality can hardly be tagged with a price, anyway.
Is HARMONY the future of short term rentals in Belgrade or just a bright example of the best practice that is destined to be an exception to the rule? Well, the best way to answer this question is through words of BeoApartman acquisitions rep when he first went into HARMONY.
No matter where in Belgrade or which of the apartments in our offer was to your liking, book HARMONY, if it’s available. You’ll know why, when you get there
