The Top 5 list of Knez Mihailova Holiday Apartments for 2015 has finally been compiled. As you may see in the slider below, the only thing that hasn’t changed compared to last year is the winner.
On one side the number of serviced apartments in (and around) Knez Mihailova street has drastically increased, since the last time we paid this particular area of Belgrade due attention (three of them are are actually in the street). On the other, there is a noticeable decline in demand for this particular part of town, which may be attributed to a shift in perception of convenience. Whilst the older generations of domestic travelers (mainly ex-yu region) still have a strong preference to Knez Mihalova (foreign guests seem to opt for bed and breakfast), younger generations seem more open to seeking their accommodation options on the left bank of the Sava river. The charming promenade which used to be the hub of the elite just a century ago, along with the convenience experienced by the pre-war bourgeois have a timeless beauty, but it seems to be fading in the light of consumerist interests of the Y generation. These youngster, somewhat expectedly, readily exchange the weary shopping route of Knez for the conformism of the two large consumerist temples across Branko’s Bridge (or Ada Bridge for that matter).
This slight downward trend might reverse its course in the next year or so, as the good omen, in the form of a multi million dollar investment by Ashtrom group, at the very entrance into Kalemegdan, is peeping from the depths of Raichevca street. After 30 years of the last great civil engineering feat in Knez Mihajlova, a hotel shopping complex in (with 500 underground parking spaces) is scheduled to open its doors in 2017. By all accounts, it’s the exact sort of thing that may retrieve the former glory to the architectural pride of the Serbian capital and finally set an end to a fenced building site that-s been a disgrace of the tourist area in the past decade. Who knows, it might become the reason for a more frequent iteration of this top list and an influx of even greater apartments. Those that we’ll call Knez Mihailova Holiday Apartments for a reason that spells prestige.
Until then, of course, you may, without a grain of doubt use this list as the first choice for high end short term rentals in Knez Mihailova street. To which we also add OLD TOWN, if you don-t mind the constriction site of the aforementioned complex, underneath its balcony.
